Jay Liu
Jay Liu is a film writer, director, and editor hailing from the embattled city of Hong Kong. He holds a B.A. in Communication (Radio/TV/Film) from Northwestern University, and recently obtained his Master of Fine Arts in Film/TV Production from the USC School of Cinematic Arts. His passion lies in telling stories of queer romance and domestic realism. He has held main creative roles on films that are finalists or selections of festivals like Newport Beach, Flickers’ Rhode Island, and Los Angeles Asian Pacific. After a competitive process, he was chosen to write and direct his thesis film “Anywhere the Wind Blows.” He volunteers for Hong Kong On Screen, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Hong Kong cinema, and has also worked in video marketing for Hong Kong Disneyland and assisted producer Stephen Gibler at USC. He is also an adept writer and critic of film and culture. He was chosen twice to be a writer in the official Cannes Classics x USC School of Cinematic Arts partnership, reporting on the Cannes Film Festival. His other bylines include Collider, The Asian Cut, and Cinema Escapist.
