Maashi Sogawa
Born in Tokushima Prefecture. While working as an assistant director, he studied filmmaking under various directors including Koji Fukada.
In 2023, his short film “salty blue” was nominated for 16 film festivals in Japan and abroad. Poland and screened in theaters in 9 cities in Poland. At the Kumagaya Ekimae Short Film Festival, the film won the Grand Prix, Best Actress Award, and Award of Excellence, as well as the Triple Crown. The film was also an official selection of SHORTSHORTS FILM FESTIVAL & ASIA2024, one of the largest international short film festivals in Asia, as part of the SHIBUYA Diversity Program. It was also selected as an official selection in the “COLORFUL WOLD” category at the Cambodia International Film Festival. The omnibus film “MIRRORLIAR FILM season 5” will be released in theaters throughout Japan on May 31, 2024.
The style of the film is to depict the delicate psychological portrayal of the characters, while thoroughly acting with a sense of reality, as if the sadness, loneliness, and helplessness that people of today have are packed into the film as if they were being soaked in formalin. The film aims to visualize the “sadness” that cannot be captured.
